It’s common for artists to have underexplored avenues in their work, especially those with an open ear for experimentation, the future and the past.

For RG Starland, one such unexplored road is signposted by this anthology on his latest album :

“Doverville Dancehall “.

Ten songs inspired by his adventures on the road and by the soulful sixties.

Tracks written by some of his all-time heroes and by himself .

Performed in sweaty and smoky dancehalls with his band the ‘Soulstrutters’  highlighted by the sublime cooperation of female vocalist Felipa Fernadez and all time  best friend and buddy Mr Wolf on harmonica the Doverville Dancehall project came to live.

All with common thread: RG Starland’s warm and soulful voice. Pleasing the crown after a week of hard labour. Inviting them to dance , drink and enjoy.

The first single of the album will be:

  "Jackson,"  a duet performed by RG Starland and Felipa Fernadez , with a sharp harmonica solo of Mr Wolf is a Grammy-winning song about a married couple whose passion has faded, with both planning to find excitement in the city of Jackson. Written by Billy Edd Wheeler, it was inspired by the intense, sparring dialogue in the play Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?

RG Starland combines the Johnny Cash vocal flavour with a Muscle Shoals Aretha Franklin beat.  A unique blend of country and soul.

RG Starland’s refined blend of soul & R&B, sweet ballads and gospel, all allied to an intuitive sense of melody and groove, sustained him through a career as musician and producer that bridged several decades.

As member of groups like Rosa King, Candy Dulfer, The Pilgrims and as co-founder of acts such as Hit the Boom!, Project 2000 and Adani & Wolf, this time RG’s creative force makes a churning blend of Wurlitzer, Hammond, guitar, smoky grooves and the emotional weight of songs, all forged in the wake of personal experiences. This fusion of authentic vocals, organic instruments and soulful beats have an absolute timeless atmosphere.
